We are planning a visit to the telescope hosting facility of Entre Encinas y Estrellas (otherwise known as e-Eye), in Fregenal de la Sierra, Spain. E-Eye has a very dark sky (typical SQM reading in summer is 22) where the Milky Way is clearly visible including the dust lanes and with up to 270 clear nights per year. In addition to hosting robotic telescopes, the facility has excellent accommodation and visitor facilities and is set in a picturesque, rural area, famous for its local produce.
Due to the limited number of spaces available on site, numbers will be limited to between 5 and 10 and be on a first come, first served basis. The upper figure only being applicable if couples wish to go as some of the bedrooms only feature a double bed.
In addition to visiting just to enjoy the dark sky, tours/excursions can be organised at additional cost. During the night time, attendees can elect to make use of any equipment they bring with them. We can also organise observing sessions with equipment on site. For those interested in serious Astrophotography, it would also be possible to rent some of the imaging telescopes on site.
The visit is planned for arrival at e-Eye by about 6.30pm on Thursday, October 4th, leaving by noon on Sunday 7th. The cost of the trip (based on 5 people) for flights, car hire and accommodation would be approximately £520.00 per person. Flights are via Ryanair from Stanstead, with 20kg luggage allowance, 2 cabin bags and priority boarding. Car hire assumes 5 sharing a people carrier. The accommodation comprises 3 named houses (‘Cefeo’ 1 double, ‘Andromeda’ 1 Double Room, 1 Twin Room and Cassiopeia, 1 Double Room and 1 Twin Room). Meals would be self-catering however group meals can be organised on-site in addition to local restaurants. This is something we would propose to discuss with attendees after they have booked in addition to any excursions.
