Unfortunately the picture of Saturn is to big to load on here.

Brian, do you want to email it to me and I’ll see if I can cut it down? You should have my email address from the flurry of committee emails.

Brian, I just had a look to see where Recife is on the map. As it’s not far south of the equator it’s amazing to think that over the course of about six months you could see almost the entire night sky! Wow!

Have you seen the Magellanic clouds?

Andy thanks for putting up the photo.  Unfortunately when I was there the weather was very cloudy, being on the edge of the Amazon rain forest, so the evenings my friends at Recife Astronomy Society has organised for us to go observing where clouded out.

This appeared on the BBC website today, a fascinating pictorial snapshot of late nineteenth century depicts a journey of a knighted industrialist travel (Sir Benjamin Stone) to Brazil on his way to join a Royal Astronomical Society expedition to view the solar eclipse.   This so mirrors Brian’s journey! And with Brian’s recent account of modern Brazil, this made for wonderful historical addendum reading today…the photos are just amazing.

Edit: There is an exhibition of some of his photos of this expedition at the Brazil Embassy in London until 7th November.
