The Society has arranged a visit to the Jodrell Bank Radio Observatory on the 22nd June 2019. Jodrell Bank has several radio telescopes including the giant Lovell Telescope, and is part of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester.
We plan to meet at the Reception in the Planet Pavilion on the observatory site. (Site and visitor information)
To start our visit at 11:00am we have organised a talk on the research currently being undertaken at Jodrell Bank. After the talk members will be free to explore the Discovery Centre and its Planet, Space and Star Pavilions, the Centre’s garden and grounds. In the afternoon there will be an opportunity to take part in the Telescope Walking Tour where you can join a guided stroll around the base of the Lovell Telescope.
We estimate cost of entry and the talk will be around £12.00 for adults £10.00 for concessions. As the cost depends on the number of visitors in the group, we cannot confirm the actual price until booking is closed. Booking for the event is now open and details of how to pay for the visit will be given after you have registered for the event. Jodrell Bank requires details of our group before our visit therefore booking and payment must be completed by the 8th June 2019.
Driving from Greenwich to Jodrell Bank via the M1 and M6 takes approximately 4hrs. Drivers willing to offer a lift, or members requiring a lift, please click the link on the booking website giving details on whether you can offer or require a lift.
